To be successful as a Research Statistician you should have:
ability to translate statistical theory into practical
ability to function as an independent consultant as well as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
Thorough technical knowledge of relevant statistical methodology
Mastering of SPSS, Excel, and custom statistical tools.
Some practical experience will be an advantage but not a pre-requisite
Degree or Masters in social sciences (with high statistical content) or statistics.

Roles and Responsibilities
The Market Research Statistician is a master of quantitative methods. In addition to selecting the appropriate technique, they also conduct the analysis themselves—providing the results to the Researcher. Additionally statisticians are often called to ensure quality and validate research findings. In this role, you will be required to manipulate raw data, produce datasets and outputs from based on specifications.
This role involves:
Supporting statisticians with computer programming tasks
Generating summary tables and data listings, producing graphs, and processing lab data, as specified in statistical analysis plan
Conducting statistical analysis
validation on sampling and sampling procedures
Generating derived SPSS datasets for all parameters and ensuring consistency among tables/listings for coding and external data reports
Developing standard macros and/or tools for data analysis and reporting.
Keeping up-to-date and informed of new developments in programming that are relevant to the industry and contributing to the innovation of new reporting systems.
Advising clients and colleagues regarding the appropriateness of available statistical methods to solve a defined business/research problem
Authorising reports containing actionable recommendations based upon the employed techniques
Educating and training others regarding statistical methods
